Miles Building
To attain a Yachtmaster Qualification, there are several requirements:
Aspiring Yachtmaster Offshore candidates must have completed:
- 5 logged passages of 60 miles or more
- at least 3 of thsse in tidal waters
- at least 2 as skipper
Miles Building Sessions
Motor Boat Fast Track offers a selection of Miles Building Courses that help you work towards building the miles and experience needed to meet the assessment pre-requisites.

What’s Included
- Fuel
- Marina fees
- Light meals at sea……breakfast, Lunch, snacks, and drinks.
- Accommodation is onboard one of our motor boats for the duration of the course. Bedding and towels are also supplied.

Course Content
Not designed as a comprehensive RYA accredited course, the Miles Building Sessions do still cover some RYA syllabus material alongside qualifying passages.
Specifically covered are:
Intro to the boat/safety equipment on board
- Boat Familiarisation and passage checks
- Practical handling familiarisation
- MOB drills
- Passage planning
- Safety brief by the trainee skippers
- Qualifying passage making
- Navigation
- Watchkeeping
- Position fixing and monitoring (running fix, radar etc.)
